The orange body color of this roach is the result of a recessive gene. Though occasionally appearing spontaneously in wild populations, the orange body mutant is useful for applications requiring rapid visual identification of introduced individuals in population studies.
This individual is also homozygous for hooded pronotum as seen by the crease along the middle of the pronotum.
